Heart-condition survivor (post-MI / post-stroke)

Cardiovascular history closes some doors. Guaranteed-acceptance keeps one open.

You’ve had a heart attack, stroke, or have an ongoing cardiac condition (atrial fibrillation, valve disease, heart failure). Underwritten products will ask detailed questions and may decline or rate up heavily. Guaranteed-acceptance products don’t ask, but apply standard 12–24 month waiting periods for natural-cause death.

Who this scenario fits

  • Prior MI, stroke, or current cardiac condition
  • Concerned about underwriting decline
  • Want cover regardless of medical history

What to look for

  • Guaranteed-acceptance products — no cardiac questions
  • Immediate accidental-cover (usually day one) even before waiting period clears
  • Accelerated Funeral Benefit terms (some insurers pay early on terminal cardiac diagnosis)
  • Cover amount matching realistic funeral cost — don't over-insure at higher premiums

Watch out for

  • Underwritten products typically decline within 12 months of a cardiac event
  • A heart attack during the waiting period of a guaranteed-acceptance product = premium refund only
  • Non-disclosure of cardiac history on an underwritten policy voids the contract under the Insurance (Prudential Supervision) Act 2010
